Patients of all ages suffer from orthopaedic issues including athletes (including elite), weekend warriors, busy working professionals, elderly patients and more. Lipogems is a best in class FDA cleared option for patients that are between conservative therapy (tried physical therapy, injections, etc. with limited relief) and are not ready for major invasive surgery (this is called the treatment gap). Patients are typically in the treatment gap for 9-12 years, but it is more like 20 years. Younger patients spend 40 years in the treatment gap, which is majority of their life.
The award winning LIPOGEMS device gently processes and uses your body’s own fat tissue to cushion and support areas of injury or damage as your body heals itself. A variety of studies over many decades have been conducted exploring the healing potential of fat. Fat has 100-500 times more reparative cells than other similar tissue in the body.2 Research has shown that as a person ages, their FAT maintains its reparative properties unlike similar tissue, which may lose healing capacity with age. When utilized in orthopaedic medicine, LIPOGEMS technology supports a healing environment to help aid in the repair, replacement, reconstruction, and support of damaged or injured tissues. LIPOGEMS can be performed in less than an hour and is a minimally invasive and immediate procedure. Lipogems may be used in the clinic/procedure room for patients that are not ready for major invasive surgery or do not qualify for major invasive surgery or it may be used with orthopaedic or arthroscopic surgery to optimize recovery.
In a minimally invasive and immediate procedure, the physician will make a tiny puncture through your skin and collect a small amount of fat from either your midsection or “love handles”. Next, the collected fat will be processed in the unique Lipogems device using only sterile saline solution to remove contaminants. During this process, your fat is washed, rinsed and resized into smaller clusters while keeping the natural beneficial properties of your fat. Since the Lipogems process micro-fragments the fat, the size of Lipogems tissue is ideal to facilitate healing in the treatment site(s). The physician will then use a small needle to inject the Lipogems tissue into the treatment site. For patients that suffer from orthopaedic conditions in multiple areas of their body, the Lipogems device can easily process the fat tissue to be used in those areas.
